The woman walked along a footpath in Houghton Hall Park, near to Cemetery Road, at around 10.45am on Friday May 8 when she was approached by three teenage boys who punched her several times and pushed her to the pavement.
The offenders then stole the woman’s bag which contained a large amount of cash.
Detective Constable Dave Elias said: “This was a horrific attack on a woman and her child, which has left the woman understandably shocked and upset, as well as with painful facial injuries.
“We are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information that could help us find those responsible for this vile crime, to contact us immediately.”
The three boys were all on bikes at the time of the incident and were wearing tracksuits and hooded tops.
