A family pub in Toddington is bringing back a much loved tradition by hosting vrass bands ever other Sunday.

The Angel, on Luton Road, was once known far and wide for its swinging live jazz bands. Former landlord Keith Baldwin ran a jazz combo called Hot Toddy back in the 70s and 80s.

On Sunday, The New Ambassadors played a live set of 1940s-style music, perfect to mark V-Day celebrations over the weekend.

Bandleader Paul Mayoll, 56, said: “It’s nice to bring Big Band music back to the Angel. We enjoy doing it and it’s taken off well.

“I remember rehearsing at the pub back in the day when the Angel was the hub of Big Band and jazz music.”

New landlady Sarah Witts said she was happy to bring the tradition back to the pub.

Other big bands performing at the pub will include Shambles, OMJ from Leighton Buzzard and Woburn Jazz. The next performance is on Sunday, May 24.
