YOUNG people taking part in a Houghton Regis initiative have been collecting cash for Appledown Kennels and Rescue, in Eaton Bray.

They were all from a Prince’s Trust team programme run in the town.

Sainsbury’s, in Dunstable, was the venue for the collection.

The team programme is for young people aged 16 to 25, and its aims include providing opportunities to use existing and new skills, work experience and help with job-hunting and writing a CV.

It also involves activities which give youngsters a chance to make a difference in the community.

The programme is run by YMCA Bedfordshire on behalf of the trust, and gives young people a confidence boost and a real sense of achievement.

Many young people are said to move into work, training or education after completing a course with the trust.

Sainsbury’s is hoping to work with the programme by carrying out mock interviews with young people and giving them guidelines about applying for jobs.

Some of the youngsters have no previous experience of job-hunting.

Anyone interested in becoming part of the programme should contact Gavin Watts on 07572 445096.
