Two new bus stops will be added to the Luton-Dunstable busway in January.
The new stops will be added to Jeans Way in Dunstable and Chaul End retail park in Luton.
Another ‘on street’ stop will be added at Townsend Farm Road to allow passengers to get off the bus before they reach the nearby supermarket.
This is expected to better serve those living in the Douglas Crescent and Northview Road areas.
Improvements will also be made to the ‘on street’ stop on Chaul End Lane.
The developments will include real-time passenger information screens and emergency help points.
According to Central Bedfordshire Council, the works, which started in October and will continue until March 2016, are not expected to cause “significant disruption” to busway services as they will be carried out overnight.
Any closures are expected to take place between 8pm and 5am.
The joint £800,000 initiative by Central Beds Council and Luton Borough Council has been funded by a grant from the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership.
Councillor Anthony Brown, deputy for community services, Central Beds Council, said: “We are delighted to be able to put the funding from SEMLEP into these works.
“We are always looking at ways to enhance the service for our residents and these works will make people’s journeys even better.”
As a result, The Clifton Road, Stanton Road, White Lion and Portland Ride bus stops wil be closed on Sunday, November 8 from 7am to 4pm and the Stanton Road stop will be closed from 7am to 4pm on Sunday, November 15.
Bus services will still operate as normal.
