Two men caught fly-tipping in have been ordered to pay more than £4,500.
Danny O’Sullivan, 32, of Trident Drive, Houghton Regis, and Thomas Richmond, 28, of High Street South, Dunstable, admitted offences in Hockliffe and Dunstable.
The pair pleaded guilty to two counts of fly-tipping when they appeared at Luton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, June 16.
O’Sullivan was ordered to pay £2,452.72 in fines and costs and Richmond was told to pay £2,081.81.
O’Sullivan and Richmond were spotted by an eye witness on both occasions and reported to Central Bedfordshire Council.
Cllr Budge Wells, deputy executive member for community services, said: “We have a zero tolerance attitude toward fly-tipping in Central Bedfordshire.
“Failure to properly dispose of commercial or domestic waste is simply not acceptable and we will prosecute offenders.
“Fly-tipping is a deliberate and thoughtless act that is both unsightly and in some cases can cause damage to the environment as waste may contain harmful materials.”
If you are getting rid of any household, business or garden waste, make sure that whoever is removing it for you have a valid waste carriers’ licence and that they give you a receipt for the job, otherwise you may face prosecution for duty of care offences.
