A commemoration day to mark the centenary of the start of the First World War is being held by Dunstable Town Council in Priory Gardens on Saturday (September 20).
Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the event gives visitors the chance to learn more about the 1914-18 conflict, how the war affected society and the impact on children and home life.
Throughout the day, there will be opportunities to take part in activities such as drills, period games and pewter casting. There will also be medical demonstrations, talks and a Cavalry picket line display with real horses.
A free commemorative exhibition will be launched featuring donated artefacts and pictures from the Great War. The display at Priory House will last for three months and focus on life in Dunstable and how it shaped the town and the community.
At 1pm the mayor of Dunstable will lead a ceremony of poems, readings and wreath laying at the War Memorial in Priory Gardens, pictured above. The event runs from 10am to 4pm and is free to attend
