A special school with campuses in Dunstable and Houghton Regis marked its first birthday with a celebration of achievements last week.

The Chiltern School’s festivities kicked off at the Houghton Regis campus in Parkside Drive, with a whole school assembly.

Pupils talked about the great things that have happened at the school in the past 12 months, since Glenwood and Hillcrest special schools merged.

Following the assembly the school’s youngest pupil Tom and oldest pupil Conal, went through the blue ribbon to declare the school officially open

Head Shirley Crosbie said: “I am really proud of all the hard work of parents, staff and above all the pupils over the past year.

“It’s been a big change for all and we are now really seeing the benefits of being one school, with pupils across both sites thriving and taking advantage of the fantastic opportunities on offer.”

Councillor Mark Versallion said: ““It was a great event and I was honoured to have been asked to say a few words to celebrate this new school.

“It was a real pleasure to meet so many fantastic children and young people.

“Everyone involved with the school is clearly working extremely hard to create a supportive and inspirational learning environment for all the pupils.

“We can all be very proud that Central Beds has such a great school as this and I wish them every success.”
