A bird’s-eye view of Whipsnade Scarecrow Festival 2013 would have revealed some ex-straw-dinary sights at the weekend.
Enthusiastic visitors flocked to the village on Saturday and Sunday, July 27-28.
There were 30 entries based on children’s stories, and the creators showed they really did know their ‘stuff’.
The overall winner was a scene showing The Queen of Hearts, with Alice, croquet hoops and hedgehogs, by Chequers Lane neighbours.
Second was the Saunders family’s Mr Men Go On Holiday. Third was Ken and Christine France’s Toad of Toad Hall.
Other attractions included a barbecue, craft stalls and a car boot sale.
The festival was organised by members of the village hall events committee.
They were delighted with the success of the weekend, which raised funds for urgent refurbishment work at the village hall.
