Parents are fearing for their children’s safety after the attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl outside Brewers Hill School in Dunstable.

The girl was walking towards the Aldbanks school at 8.50am when a blue truck pulled up beside her and two white males approached her.

They apparently asked her what she was doing, where she was going, and tried to ‘coax’ her into the vehicle.

She ran away and into the school, and told her teacher what had happened. The teacher informed headteacher Anita Harvey, who informed the child’s mother.

The father of the unnamed girl said: “My daughter was crying her eyes out.”

Mrs Harvey said: “The matter was treated as a priority – the child’s welfare was at the centre of our thinking.”

A police spokesman said: “We would of course advise parents to be vigilant, especially with the school holidays coming up.

“We would also advise people to report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.”

Any suspicious behaviour should be reported to Beds Police by calling the non-emergency number 101.

Parents and residents took to the Gazette’s Facebook page to share their views.

Clare Roberts said: “I wish all local schools were informed about this as soon as possible so we had the information in Friday to share with student and parents.”

Hayley Kellly said: “It would have been nice to have been informed of this on Friday.”
