A toddler has been left “scarred for life” after falling on broken glass allegedly left by workmen outside her Houghton Regis home.
Three-year-old Gracie Draper was playing in Trident Drive on Wednesday at about 8.30pm when she slipped and fell on the glass.
She suffered deep cuts and grazes to her nose, cheek and forehead.
Her mother, Amie Bennett, 20, blamed Luton glaziers JMD Glass, who had recently replaced a window at a neighbour’s house.
Gracie was playing on a small wall when she fell, first cutting her hand and then her head and face.
Horrified Amie phoned for an ambulance and Gracie was rushed through as a priority at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital A&E department.
Amie said: “Blood was gushing out and she was scared. It wasn’t a small amount of glass, they were big chunks.”
She complained to the Dallow Road glass company, who sent a man round to sweep up the glass.
She added: “He told me that all three-year-olds fall over, and called me a bad mother.
“He was a horrible man, he didn’t apologise. They tried to blame it on me.”
The Hawthorn Park Nursery pupil is no longer allowed to play outside, and was not allowed to go swimming when the family went to Blackpool at the weekend.
Amie said: “The cut on her forehead and the one on her nose will scar for life.
“She did a bit of modelling when she was younger, and they told her to go back when she was older but she won’t be able to now.”
A spokesman for JMD Glass told the Gazette: “We do not believe we are at fault. We are not prepared to comment further. The matter is with our insurers.”
