A Dunstable upper school has launched a public consultation on its proposal to become a secondary school for pupils aged 11 to 19.
Students at Manshead School currently range in age from 13 to 19.
If the plan goes ahead, the school would admit students from the age of 11 starting from September 2014.
News of the consultation was announced by Manshead governors.
They point out that a number of lower schools in Dunstable and Houghton Regis have either already converted to become primary schools or are proposing to do so.
The school says that under the plan, the change would mean Manshead would be able to offer a full secondary school provision for pupils reaching the end of their primary education.
Head Jim Parker said: “We are very excited about this proposal as we believe that pupils starting with us two years earlier will help them to make even better progress during their time at Manshead School.
“We also believe that parents want this choice.
“We know that having a coherent route through the education system in Dunstable is important for parents.
“We remain fully committed to working with schools in our learning partnership, and more widely in the town, to ensure that the best route can be followed.”
The public consultation on the proposed age range change was launched on Monday, March 25.
And the school team say that they hope people will wish to read the documents published and respond to a consultation questionnaire.
