IT was celebration time for a Dunstable school after news that it came top of the class in Central Beds in the government’s 2011 primary school performance tables.
The table rated Priory Middle School as the area’s highest performing middle school at key stage two, following the release of national curriculum SATS test results.
And the Britain Street school has even more good news.
For the team has received the government go-ahead to transform the school into an academy for pupils aged nine to 13, later this year.
Statistics in the performance table showed that 92 per cent of the eligible Priory pupils achieved level four or above in both maths and English, with an average point score of 29.5.
That was significantly above the national 74 per cent figure for English primary schools.
Head Keith Scotchford said: “This is undoubtedly a joyous occasion and makes us extremely proud of our children’s achievements.”
He said that the school’s maths results place it in the top two per cent nationally, and he was delighted that three Priory pupils achieved 100 per cent in all three test papers.
The head felt the results bore testament to pupils’ hard work, quality teaching, strong subject leadership and parents’ involvement.
That includes a very promising response to the school’s parent-child workshops in maths and English – which are also attended by some grandparents.
